Somewhat baffling story

Here's a story of an unusual robbery. http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150568763197115

Specifically, a 24 karat gold middleweight championship boxing belt was taken from the home.

The belt, a family heirloom weighing approximately seven to nine pounds, is a British Empire “Lonsdale” belt named after Lord Lonsdale of Great Britain and has his picture in the middle.

This isn't the kind of thing you can fence or sell on ebay. I wonder if it was melted down right away or if it was stolen by someone who is a weird collector? Or if they had someone steal it for them?
