I am very surprised
I'm reading the 2009 handbook for friends and family members of inmates in the North Carolina prison system and I'm surprised to read this:
As of January 1, 2006, the use of all tobacco products and tobacco materials inside all prison facility buildings is prohibited. Tobacco products include cigarettes, cigars, snuff, smokeless tobacco, chews, or any other substance containing tobacco. Tobacco materials include rolling papers, pipes, or other products used to smoke, inhale, or ingest tobacco products.
I'm not a fan of tobacco or any of its various products but it does seem if there's one place you should be allowed to smoke it's a prison. What else are you going to do to keep from freaking out? I'd be sucking down a stogie every two minutes to keep from having a claustrophobic panic attack...
