What are you thinking

Why is it whenever someone is in danger on TV or the movies someone says to the friend or relative "Take my car" just before the person rushes off to be at the side of their loved one?

Why? Should someone who is that upset be driving at all? Of course not. And here you are, asking them to drive a car they aren't even used to driving. It starts to rain, they're already crying or whatever, they fumble through the tears for the windshield wipers and bam, now you're the one rushing to get to the hospital, driving someone else's car. Why not just offer to drive them?
